Storm-damaged trees can move after the weather is over. Split trunks, lifted roots, hanging limbs, and trees resting on other trees should be treated as unstable.

What you can do now
Set a clear no-go area around the tree and keep cars, children, pets, and equipment outside it.
Look from several safe angles for split trunks, lifted soil at the roots, broken tops, and hanging limbs.
Check what the tree could strike: the house, driveway, wires, propane tank, well head, septic access, or neighboring property.
Photograph the whole tree and the damaged section from a safe distance for the arborist.
Do not use ropes, ladders, chainsaws, or vehicles to pull a loaded limb or leaning tree.
If access is blocked, plan an alternate route before anyone attempts removal work.
